Several battery manufacturers now offer alkaline batteries as replacements for their discontinued mercury cells. In most cases, the replacement does not have the same voltage as the mercury batter y that it is replacing (usually 1.5volt instead of 1.35); and the unstable output inherent with alkaline batteries can result in exposure errors up to 2 f-stops!
